Laotian Congregation
by Pastor Inthava Inthisane
For nearly two decades, First Wesleyan Church has been involved in ministry to Lao refugees in the Piedmont area. Many Laotian people moved here in search of better job opportunities. Because of the church people's love for the Lord, many Laotian people became believers in Jesus Christ, and in 1993, I was called to be the pastor of the Lao congregation at First Wesleyan.
Laotian people are Buddhists from birth because Buddhism is a state religion. We speak the Lao language and have our own culture. I became a believer in Jesus while in a refugee camp in Thailand, and today God has given me a love and a burden for all Laotian people and the hope that we will all someday become Christians. Since our congregation began, the Lord has blessed us so much. We want to serve God among our people by teaching the Word of God, sharing the Gospel, providing leadership training and social services, such as translation assistance for employment and INS applications.
Each Sunday we meet to celebrate, worshipping the Lord from 9:00 A.M. until Noon. Please come and join us. Our worship is in Lao, but we welcome everyone. We want our church to be a life-changing place, where people are encouraged to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, grow in Him and serve Him joyfully.
